Does anyone have recommendations for Barcelona restaurants - just DH and I, and would love something regional i.e. Catalonian.

we went to a great restaurant called Los Carocoles

just off the Ramblas

was marvellous

The Attic on Las Ramblas - is as it says an attic with a great restaurant which is a decked roof terrace thingy - food is brilliant and there is a club downstairs full of trendy people.

You have to book though.

Two lovely places - Pla (Montcada 1) and its sister restaurant Re-Pla (Bellafila 5). Those are the street names in brackets btw. Went three years ago but just had a quick look on tripadvisor and still seem to get good reviews. We preferred Pla. Has a bit of an Asian "twist". I think Re-Pla is more Catalan. V friendly staff.

Sorry DP says I've got that the wrong way round and Pla is Catalan and Re-Plas more Asian. Pla was def our favourite though.

Thanks - we're off tomorrow for a few days, really looking forward to it.

Academia. You'll have to book though. One of the best nights i've ever had.

Los Caracoles. (same as Rubyslippers!!)
You have to go there, it's full of locals and food is fab. Sometimes a bit of a wait to get a table but well worth it. Am jealous!

Well, what a fantastic few days. Weather beautiful - sunny, bright blue skies and cool. We, serendipitously, actually walked past both Re Plas and Los Caracoles. We had lunch at Re Plas - it's quite small, beautiful tiles on the floor and a nice mix of bar tables and dining tables, staff (all women when we were there) were lovely - taking the time to explain the menu properly, and we had a fantastic meal - some tapas to start, then a rabbit paella (sorry Lapin ).

we had tapas at Los Caracoles mid afternoon - on a different day I hasten to add - Iberican ham and razor clams which I've never had before, and a few beers - delicious.

Loved Barcelona - only downside was DH having his pocket picked (but they only got the decoy wallet with a few euros and no c/cards) on a late evening in the Barri Gothic - we even knew what the guy was up to, but hey, he could have had a knife, so DH just let him get on with it.

Highlight of the touristy stuff was Montserrat and Parc Guell. If you go to Montserrat make sure you're there for the service at 1pm to hear the choir, and go up the Saint Joan funicular - the views from the top are heart singingly beautiful. Parc Guell was well worth the slog up hill - very interesting if you like moderniste architecture, and weird but quite lovely.

We actually found a really nice bar/restaurant close to the apartment where we were staying - La Llimone on Cr Nicaragua. This was a true local bar (Cr Nicaragua is residential/business district). We had dinner there on 2 nights and they have a great tapas menu - very busy, full of locals and very friendly people, would highly recommend.
