Can anyone suggest somewhere nice for lunch near either Kings Cross or Liverpool Street please?

I'm meeting a friend for lunch on Friday - she's getting into Liverpool Street at about 12, and I have to be at Kings Cross to meet someone else off a train arriving at 3.45. We usually head off to Covent Garden or the South Bank, but are thinking of staying close to one of other of the stations to reduce to-ing and fro-ing. I've had a look on Square Meal but can't find anything very inspiring.

It doesn't have to be super-smart, but somewhere where we can have a nice meal and a chat.

Thanks in advance!

Try looking at toptable.co.uk, they have loads of places. And you can search by area too - they include Kings Cross under West End, and Liverpool St under City of London heading. You might even find one that has a special offer on too

If you like sushi you could try Moshi Moshi in Liverpool Street station. Nice considering the location!

Otherwise you could go to Spitalfields Market near Liverpool Street (10 mins walk tops). There are loads of decent (if chainy) places in the redevelopment round there including Leon, Carluccios etc. You should find somewhere nice there and could also have a nice time browsing the market.

There is also a St John in that area too if you want something a bit more upmarket.

Have a nice time!

Definitely much more choice and better quality around Liverpool St than Kings X. Head for Broadgate Circle behind the station and there are loads of places, Corney and Barrow is good and not too pricey and there is a fantastic (but v expensive) Japanese place with Teppenyaki grill there (cam't remember name). Thinking about it makes me miss my lunches in the City in my previous life ...enjoy!!

Thank you for the steer Louandben - I think you are right. I'm going to meet my friend at Liverpool St and take it from there. Might try Corney and Barrow, last time I tried to go to the Traf Square one it had turned into something else much to my dismay.

KX is getting much better - Camina is a great tapas/spanish restaurant and bar; Acorn is lovely and you can always go to St Pancras where there are loads of places, incl the champagne bar!

agree that spitalfields is lovely but a bit chain-y.

if you fancy something different Haz is a wonderful turkish place just off Bishopsgate. Fab Mezze in particular, and great service.
