I have to find flights and Hotel for 4/5 days for me + one chick to go away, as friends.

I haven't booked a holiday since before DP died.

Does anyone have any ideas of location and of some good travel websites?

The Canaries is an option, don't know which is the best island though!

I think that for 4/5 days a city break may be the sort of thing more than a package - Could try Palma or Barcelona. Both gorgeous cities in their own right. Beach would be a lot nearer iirc in Barcelona or Palma. (You could just book easyjet flights)and then hotel separately)

If you go to the Canaries, I can recommend Fuerteventura, it's the smallest island so not as commercialised.
Have you tried lastminute.com or expedia?

thailand!

fairyfly · 14/03/2005 18:31

lou33 · 14/03/2005 18:32

thought as much

Pinotmum · 14/03/2005 18:34

I'd suggest Barcelona or Marrakesh.

jmg1 · 14/03/2005 18:35

Love Thailand but long way to go for such a short time.

Me and dh are going to Barcelona in April. I haven't been before, but every friend who has, says its brill.

mummytosteven · 14/03/2005 18:40

or Palermo might be nice (beach at Mondello, about six miles away)

lou33 · 14/03/2005 18:40

not if you make it for a week, lose a day each end, 5 days holiday

lou33 · 14/03/2005 18:42

barcelona would be good, dh loved it and spacedonkey went with her dp and had a great time

Depends what you want. Peace and quiet? Scenery? Nightlife?

For nightlife you'd probably be better off in Tenerife, though it is very built up in the south (where most of the resorts are).

For scenery & peace and quiet how about Madeira? It's a beautiful island with some fantastic walks, if you're into that sort of thing. You'd need to hire a car to see the prettiest bits though. Uh-oh, just noticed that you want sand. Madeira has no beaches!

In that case, what about Fuerteventura? Plenty of sand there! Never been myself but know people who have and I' told there are great beaches but not very much else.

We went to Marbella (bling!) at Easter 2 years ago - forget exact dates but around 12/4-26/4. The weather was fantastic and the sand too hot to walk on sometimes but it wasn't too busy, we loved it.

For flights just google "cheap flights Destination" (or try flightchecker if you want budget); for hotels "luxury/budget/whatever hotel Destination" (or whatever class you're after). Lots to do on Costa del Sol if you get bored with beach.

Frizbe · 14/03/2005 19:28

I'd 2nd Teneriffe, but go to the north for nicer scenery and history, you can always travel to south if you want sandy beaches, with loads of nightlife! don't do Gran Canaria unless you just want sun, as your choice is Blackpool in resort form without the tower, or Puerto Banus, which is ok, but for a whole week...zz....

jmg1 · 15/03/2005 17:47

Ahem, turns out the said lady would like to go with the kids. I have 3 she has 1 so that makes it tricky to get flights and hotel for 6, at such short notice

My lads passport runs out in May, but some Countries require a further six months on passport beyond holiday end date. Why have an expiry date if you need the passport to be valid for a further six months???

what are you going to do then?

lucy5 · 15/03/2005 19:30

i live in estepona between malaga and gibraltar so you can fly to either airport. Its a lovely little town but close to marbella if you want a bit of nightlife.

bonym · 15/03/2005 20:47

If money is no object, Dubai is wonderful and most of the hotels have great kids clubs

lou33 · 15/03/2005 20:54

yes my sister says dubai is great

onlyjoking9329 · 15/03/2005 20:55

have a look on jamesvillas.co.uk we are going on thursday for two weeks to lanzarote have been to lanzarote 4 times march april oct and nov always had great weather, villas are great cos lots of room and always a pool.

Anteater · 15/03/2005 23:30

Why not switch the sand for snow and book a holiday in the Alps for you all, loads of luxury chalets around at mo to sleep you all. Kids would love it. Try www.skisolutions.com or www.scottdunn.co.uk

Janh · 16/03/2005 09:18

You can ski as well in southern Spain - Sierra Nevada is 1-2 hours from Costa del Sol, 1 hour from Granada, you can swim in the morning and ski in the afternoon

Oh this is funny; I just googled Sierra Nevada and got this page - says "Sierra Nevada (Spain)" at the top and goes on to talk about Yosemite and other California features.

Spanish Sierra Nevada ski-ing
