children and malaria

we are booked to go to the dominican republic next feb for 2 weeks. We are staying all inclusive in Sousa. DS1 will be 2 and half and DS2 will be 9 months.

I have read that there is malaria in DR but not in tourist areas. Has anyone been with little ones and did you get them dosed up? Or does anyone have any experience of children taking antimalarials.

I have a bad history with malairals and am very reluctant to take them for myself.

Any advice would be muchly appreciated

We give the dc antimalarials when we go to the coast (kenya) with no problems. We use paediatric malarone. Costs a fortune but for us is the most effective.

Check on the WHO website for advice re areas and types of malaria in DR and they should also recommend the most effective antimalarial for you to take depending on the strain.
