Taking the boys (11 and 8) abroad next year but can't decide where?

Had planned on Majorca but now having a rethink?

Where have you been that's been successful? We like walking and exploring generally and would prefer a hotel with a pool.

Madeira gets a big thumbs up - great walking.

We went to Sardinia with our then 8 month old dd - it was lovely. Stayed in a hotel - and everything worked out perfectly. She is a good baby though - bathed, fed, nightie, grobag and then into her pram for zzzzzzzzzzz as we had our dinner!

Would you consider somewhere without a beach? We have been to Austria on a few occasions to the Kinderhotels (used to be advertised on this site a lot) and they have been so fun. Particularly with older boys who can really take part in all the activities they provide. Their hotels all have pools, kids clubs, many have lakes for bathing and activities and all are in amazing settings with walking, horse riding, etc. The weather would be lovely in the summer as they are all up in mountain regions.

We also had a great holiday in Rhodes at a hotel on the beach, and the main town was just a very short bus ride away with plenty of walking around to do - lots of medeival walls, ruins etc if they like that. But it would be extremely hot in the summer.

Oooo lots of good ideas here I've been to Rhodes years ago and loved it.

I hadn't thought of Austria but will have a google. Thanks all.

Camel rides, snake charmers, teeth pullers, the desert. seeing sheep heads and snail soup. What more do boxs want?
Go to Essaouria and they can play on the beach, kite surf, etc

I have two boys now 10 and 12.
Successful holidays have included -
a good pool,
a big water park,
lots of different restauants to try,
a beach with waves (not always guaranteed in the med)
some family entertainment in the evening.
Our top 3 favourite places have been Alvor in Portugal, Protaras in Cyprus and Correlejjo in Fuerteventura.
