Hello, we have an early morning flight to Singapore in December and we are thinking of staying in a hotel near to the airport to ease stress, no worrying about accidents/queues on the motorway, just been looking at the crowne plaza which says it is on the airport complex.Has anyone stayed there? thanks......

Its a standard holiday inn hotel just a bit nicer (crowne plaza is holiday inn's slightly better brand) It is about 5 mins from the terminals and the staff will tell you about the shuttle. I seem to remember that there is one that is actually connected to the terminals but it is more expensive).

We often use on site hotels (or even just nearby if they have a free shuttle) and you are absolutely right about the huge amount of stress it takes away. We were two hours late getting to Gatwick last year because of traffic - didn't matter as we were just two hours later than we expected at the hotel, checked in nice and on time the follwing morning (with slightly grumpy DCs who has gotten two hours less sleep than expected).

Yes, I've stayed there before a flight. It's a good quality hotel. We had a very early morning flight, had to be in the terminal at 4 in the morning. Half asleep after the alarm call we went to reception and asked about the shuttle to the terminal. The guy on the desk said to stand on a white line outside then the driver will know we want the minibus. He then came round to drive it! . Just something that stuck in my head.

We've not stayed at the Crowne Plaza. We usually stay at Bewleys which is also on site and have found that to be a lovely hotel too. The room rates are very reasonable. The hotel connected to the terminals is the Radisson SAS which is considerably more expensive.

thanks for the Bewleys recommendation, have been looking at that as well.
