In-car DVDs - does watching them make car sickness worse or better?

Friend has leant us their DVD players for a long drive we're doing with our DC aged 11, 8 and 2.

8yo has been known to get travel sick so am very dubious about letting her watch DVDs, but friend said his vomit-prone DD is fine with them.

What's your experience?

We haven't had a problem and DD does have travel sickness tendencies

should be ok if they are properly mounted to back of seat rest but not if they just have them on their laps ... ds was sick all over ours which he was holding - it now gets stuck 3/4 way through every dvd!

I've wondered this. My 2-year-old repeatedly projectile voms from car sickness on long journies, poor mite. Have wondered if a dvd of The Wiggles would make things better or worse. (I know, an in-car dvd player for a 2-year-old would be ridiculous and I never thought I'd be that parent, but seriously, the car is swimming by the time we get to our destination )

I've found it does help but dd is still sick but just not as often.

ds2 (9) has always been prone to travel sickness. i.e from the age of 3-6 would vomit on every journey longer than 12 miles
Since then vomits periodically - goes through phases of being fine for a while then being sick again for a bit.

Playing Nintendo DS is hideous for him and it always makes him feel or be sick.

We got an in-car DVD player last Christmas and he has only once been sick whilst watching it, and we did c. 2000 miles of driving over 3 months this summer! He says he doesn't feel ill watching the DVDs.

I always thought in-car DVD would make him worse (like the Nintendo) as you're watching a tiny screen, rather than focusing on the horizon and helping your brain to interpret the motion sensors correctly.

But it hasn't for us.

Well we tried it on our 6-hour drive and The Vomiting One was fine. It was brilliant in fact, made the journey so much easier.

Broccoli - not ridiculous, really, my 2yo loved it ("watch Pingu in the car mummy!") but it did stop him falling asleep when he might have done normally.

Dd will vomit on most journies 5 minutes before arrival at destination (irrespective of the length of the journey).

The DVD has made no impact (pro or con) on this very special ability.
