have just flown Virgin to Dubai and you can take a flight case/small holdall/rucksack thing, plus a laptop case or handbag or camera case - so basically your hand luggage and a handbag

You don;t need the travel agent; they would not necessarily know anyway.

The information below is from Virgin's website (this information was at the bottom of their homepage in the FAQ section):-

Economy and Premium Economy passengers may take 1 piece of hand baggage on board. Individual dimensions not to exceed 23 x 36 x 56cm, (approx 9 x 14 x 22 inches) and 13lb/6kg in weight.

ADDITIONAL CABIN ITEMS PERMITTED
In addition to the cabin baggage allowance, the following personal items may be carried on board:

  • A handbag, pocketbook or purse i.e. which is appropriate to normal travelling dress and is not being used as a container for the transportation of articles which could otherwise be regarded as baggage.
  • An overcoat or wrap.
  • An umbrella (pointed or/and sharp prohibited) or walking stick.
  • A small camera and/or pair of binoculars.
  • A reasonable amount of reading matter for the flight.
  • Infants food for consumption in flight.
  • A small amount of duty free goods.

I flew to New York in May with Virgin . Both Dh and I took small trolley cases as hand luggage, although mine was not that small! DD's took a ruck sack each and I had a handbag. Hope that helps.

lizandlulu,

Some more information for you, this time re hold baggage:-

Economy passengers travelling on flights to/from the USA are allowed up to 2 pieces of baggage, each weighing up to 23kg as their free allowance.

Therefore, passengers wishing to check in baggage weighing more than their allowance of 23kg, will be charged £35 / USD70 per piece of baggage for each flight taken.

I would suggest you purchase some luggage scales before you fly back to the UK as they are quite strict on weight of each hold luggage piece.

lizandlulu · 07/10/2008 17:47

does than mean i can carry 2 suitcases, each weighing 23kg and dh can have 2 too??

or is it 23kg for the combined weight of the 2 cases?

this confused me in the book, but i just persumed it was 23 total each.

lizandlulu,

This page from VA's website should help too:-

www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/passengerinformation/baggage/baggagebypiece.jsp

Its 23kg maximum per case.

My counsel as well, take half the clothes and twice the money!.

Do let your credit card company know before travel you will be in the US for the duration of your holiday as they may well cancel your card otherwise!.

lizandlulu · 07/10/2008 21:50

that reads i would be allowed 2 suitcases each weighing 23 kg, so i could have 46 kg of luggage by the time i come back, as long as they are within the dimension limits.

that sounds a hell of alot of luggage, i am going to go to the travel agent and get them to find out for definate.

i am only taking the bare minuimum as i plan on buying alot, but dont wnat to be overweight.
