Car Seats and Planes

Hi. Has anybody flown with Singapore Airlines and used a car seat for their toddler? If so - which seat did you use? I am finding it difficult to get clear guidance on which - if any seats bought in the UK - will fit and will definitely be allowed on the plane.

paz1 I havent flown Singapore Airlines however we flew United in April and our very large Britax carseat did fit in the seat. I also tried to find info on this before we went and all I could find was that only very specific types of car seat would be allowed on the plane. When I rang the airline they airline they wouldn't commit and in the end we just took the plunge. We had to take the car seat anyway as we were hiring a car in the US and actually had not problem on any of our flights taking the car seat on or getting it to fit. I know that doesn't answer your question about Singapore Airlines but I wanted to let you know that it is possible!

Paz, we are booked to fly Singapore Air from Amsterdam to Singapore to Brisbane, at the end of November.

They did tell us that there was a requirement for an under-2 to be in a carseat. However, when I was moaning about this to the lovely people at Singapore Air in Amsterdam (where we had to buy our tix), they said it was only an "official" requirement, and that if you felt happy to have your toddler on your lap, in the provided safety belt during takeoff and landing, then you didn't have to have the carseat.

having said that, I did see regs on Singapore air about the carseat requirements - have you seen those?

Thanks for the advice. I was given dimensions by Sing Air which didn't seem to match any seat i could find. Britax were helpful and said a lot of people use the Freeway on planes and they have had good feedback about it. But it seems a bit wider than the Singapore requirements. Interesting that they said it was an option not to use the carseat phdlife. Makes me feel better as at least if they refuse to let us use the Britax she can still sit in the seat. It seems as if everyone in the US flies with their kids in carseats but it doesn't seem as common here.

no it's bizarre isn't it. we've been back and forth to Oz and the US several times over past few years and I've never ever seen it.
