Tell me about Tenerife - probably going in Nov and think I may be mad.

Have never done a "beach" holiday before and not entirely sure its my cup of tea. But DH and his mates are going for a week's paragliding, staying in Playa da Americas (sp?). And in a moment of madness I said me and dd (7) would come as well.

So they would be off paragliding all day, every day - leaving me and dd to our own devices. I've been assured it will be warm and sunny . Is it lager lout central? Its in a Thomas Cook place which makes my heart sink more. Maybe I'm totally wrong and it will be lovely. Oro Blanco its called.

Will there be plenty of things to see and do to keep me and dd amused. I can see us getting bored if we have to spend 7 days sat on a beach. So would prefer that there is stuff to do. We like walking and I think there is a national park on the island - but not sure how accessible it is, or of it would be snowy in November.

The holiday will be bokked tomorrow - so there is chance for me to change my mind. But its Tenerife or a week at work so suspect I may go whatever.

Eek. Yes. I went to a place near Playa de las Americas in May. It is lager lout central but may be a bit better out of season. I'd recommend hiring a car and driving up to the volcano - it's amazing. I'll have a think about the other stuff we did that wasn't so touristy. I'd definitely recommend hiring a car though (sorry to repeat myself)

Am trying to get everyone agree to go to Los Giantas instead - seems a bit of a quieter resort.

And we'll definetly be hiring cars. The volcano sounds good.

Been to Los Gigantos and it wasn't too lager louty. Beach was black volcanic sand, OK but took a bit of getting used to! Volcano is well worth a visit. Also boat trip to see wales/dolphins. North part of theisland very different to south so good to drive around ad see all parts.

Well DH's mates have refused to go to Los Giantos as they reckon its too far away from the flying sites. So we're off to Coasta Adeje which I think is on the outskirts of Playa de los Americos. Apartment block is opposite a big aqua park and apparantly overun with cockroaches and lager louts

Aqua Park is fun - has a dolphin show. Hire a car and drive over the island to the Loro Parque zoo - has a dolphin show, a killer whale show and various other shows (sea lion, etc). Pool might be cold if it is not heated at that time of year.

Take ear plugs just in case!

Have fun.

My dh and his mates went to Costa Adeje in November a couple of years ago.

He says its lovely, not lager louty but close enough to get to "the strip" if that's what you're into.

Plenty of nice quieter bars and restaurants than Americas which he said was BLOODY AWFUL.

He actually wants to go to Costa Adeje for a family holiday next year so it can't be too "cluby" cos he wouldn't take dc's somewhere like that and he reckons he's too old!!!

I think the weather is mild at that time of year. He came back with a hint of tan but you will probably need cardies etc for night time.

Regardless, I am one of those eternal optomists who believes if you go in the right frame of mind you can enjoy yourself anywhere

Have a great time!

Thanks, I'm sure we will have a great time. I'm not bothered if the apartment's a bit of a dump - I just need my sleep at night! Will definetly take ear plugs.

Its fab. got this link if any good www.eurosol.com/map_p0.htm. Beaches are clean and loads of facilities. Well worth going to Loro Parque.
I have been a few times with and without children. Last year DD (4) and DS (1) loved it so much it was the best holiday we ahve had. Costa Adeje is much nicer than further down. What is the name of your accomodation?

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 30/09/2008 16:11

Its Malibu Park - have read some not very good reviews about it.

The beach further down from your place at Torviscas has always been clean when I've been. Puerto Colon used to have a reallly nice marina and restaurants - not sure what it is like now. The further to the west you go, the posher it gets!!!
Definitely go to Teide. Be prepared to queue for the cable car even out of season. We went in Feb but the queue was too long for us to wait in it with 2 young children
Have fun
