Want a posh restaurant in Birmingham

Have booked a couple of nights away, without children, for the first time in years. I'm looking for somewhere swanky for dinner - just because we can. Any suggestions?

I went somewhere near the Botanical Gardens on a hen do earlier this year, but can't for the life of me think what it was called. Any ideas?

theres a brilliant burger restaurant down by the canal, behind the sealife centre...may sound a bit scutty but did really good burgers. was all kind of natural and organic - very trendy. was then told it was a popular shirt lifters hang out - didnt put me off me burger tho

We have been to Simpsons a few times and have always had amazing food. (We've stayed there too).

Bank is really good, less formal, more buzzy. If we stay for 2 nights in Brum they are the 2 places we go to. Also, the noodle bar in Selfridges do a mean beef in black bean for lunch...

Simpsons is meant to be fab - unfortunately I haven't been yet. If you're away for a couple of nights and want something less expensive on the other night, there is a lovely Morroccan restaurant in Mosely. Or Thai Edge in Oozell's Square (near Brindley Place) is nice.

I hear that Bank can be a bit hit and miss nowadays.

Also Edmunds in Oozell's Square and Turners in Harborne generally get v good reviews.

Ooh yes: Cielo is very nice - but I object to paying £11 odd for a bowl of pasta, as I could make it myself at home! Last time I went I had the most amazing dessert though - a whole peach, poached in wine, with almond icecream and something chocolately, all served on a long, narrow plate. V nice indeed!

The Living Room on Broad Street was great last time I went. Both DH and I love it there.

Where in Birmingham are you staying?

I was just about to recommend Simpsons. Never been to the one in Brum but went to it when it was in Kenilworth. Very good.

have wanted to go here ever since I saw him on The Great British Menu don't know what it's like, though.

Jonathan's is lovely and intimate too, but out of the city centre.
