Want a posh restaurant in Birmingham

Have booked a couple of nights away, without children, for the first time in years. I'm looking for somewhere swanky for dinner - just because we can. Any suggestions?

I went somewhere near the Botanical Gardens on a hen do earlier this year, but can't for the life of me think what it was called. Any ideas?

Thanks for a few suggestions for the other night, too. Relieved no-one came in to say bad things about Simpson's, now I've booked it!

Mmm Malory - MIL works at the Uni and looks down her nose at King's Heath, although she'd never admit it to my face.

Fully intend to have a fab time. I am very, very excited!

Malory - where/what is Planet Organic please?

Basically, Kings Heath High Street isn't very nice at all but York Road is now all cafes and restaurants and Poplar Road has the very lovely People shop, plus the Peace Cafe and a couple of pretty jewellery places and a crafty type shop. Hopefully these type of places will spread, and scare away all the pound shops!

EachPeachPearMum · 22/09/2008 22:50

Kings Heath has 2 organic cafes, thank you.
Also a Malaysian restaurant, a French Boulangerie with cafe (run by genuine French people), plus as Janeite says a lovely jewellery shop, craft shop, Clothes and lovely objets shop (People) and gift shop (festival).

Yes the high st is pretty horrible, especially as Peacocks opened this week , but beyond that is quite good. Tbh Harborne high St is a dump too.

LilRedWG · 23/09/2008 08:28

I'll definitely have to take a wander off the High Street then. When I was a child I remember the High Street being really nice. Poplar Road has always attracted nice shops - I should have thought of there.

we went to simpsons for a special birthday with the entire family and i was unimpressed. i have occasionally eaten at michelin starred restaurants and this one wasn't up to the usual standards.

the food was too silly and the kids menu completely uninspired (and so expensive!). as we'd booked a private room we had a reduced menu which meant i couldn't have the vergetarian oiption (so had fish).

It was ok but definitely not worth the huge cost.

service was lovely though and my 3 kids loved the toilets!!

we'd have preferred somewhere else but the treat was for my m-in l's 75th birthday so it was her call (and she paid)

can recommend a great chinese/asian place in henley in arden
