Such a lovely, quaint little place to visit!

Werneth Park is worth a visit. It has a swing that hasn't been vandalised.

EachPeachPearMum · 13/09/2008 20:21

I recommend a tour of the Civic Centre- from the top on a clear day you can see the Welsh Mountains!

Of course, there's no chance of a clear day, cos it rains all the time

snigger · 13/09/2008 20:25

I was born there

It's grim up north.

EachPeachPearMum · 13/09/2008 20:28

Oooh- who are ya snigger?
Come on... spill!

snigger · 13/09/2008 20:32

I'm no-one particularly...but my cousin once did the payroll for Coronation Street ...

CurrantBM · 13/09/2008 20:36

I went to the school on the hill there that looks like a castle.

Agree is very quaint can't get around the place with out falling over Bunty Cupcakes, the town needs to realise there needs to be more to look at than headband galleries, and offer tourists something other than Tarte au pomme avec beouf, or Le Buttee, if it wants to up the stakes.

EachPeachPearMum · 13/09/2008 20:53

Sorry snigger I thought you were a namechanger! (PMcL)

EachPeachPearMum · 15/09/2008 10:41

CurrantBM - what year did you leave BC? [nosey emoticon]

CurrantBM · 15/09/2008 11:27

Started in 79, and left in 84.

Soooo long ago.

EachPeachPearMum · 15/09/2008 14:02

sorry- somewhat before my time! (I started sec school in 1985)

CurrantBM · 15/09/2008 14:58

Go on rub it in!! pah!!

Are you still in that part of the world or have you moved on?

EachPeachPearMum · 15/09/2008 15:41

Oh no, moved away in 1993. You?

CurrantBM · 15/09/2008 16:26

Also moved away, in 91, I think.

Now live in the Cotswolds, but have lots of family in the North West still. My accent comes back thick and fast when I'm speaking to them, or depending who you ask I have it all the time.

EachPeachPearMum · 15/09/2008 17:29

I know what you mean- in O/m I have no accent at all... but some phrases really bring it out.

Busybeingmum, I also remember the little roundabout too! Do any of you remeber the butchers at the top of one of the arcades? He used to give me and my little brother a chickens foot to play with if we were good!!!!!!!

It was a raw foot with the tendons loose at the end, and if you pulled on them the toes would curl up, hours of fun.

Maybe that's why I became an operating theatre nurse?

Tortington · 15/09/2008 17:59

i shall be up there soon - delightful

EachPeachPearMum · 15/09/2008 20:00

I used to love that roundabout!
I liked the little bus best

CurrantBM · 16/09/2008 15:38

custard I'm very envious, I love going back up to see my relatives, and DD's really enjoy all the extra attention.

Nothing beats driving over Saddleworth Moor and all of the lovely villages up there.
