dh and I are going for a weekend in New York next year and am NOT staying in the utter dive I was in when I went with my best mate last time

does anyone have any hotel recommendations please? I normally use trip advisor but seeing as this is our first, and possibly last, break away I'd like someone to tell me where was nice

thank you

lol - the place my mate and I stayed was just off times square, had police constantly in the lobby, carpet stapled to the wall as headboards, the toilet door didn't fit the door frame, the toilet was blocked and the window wouldn't shut as was broken, the staff only spoke chinese and refused to refund anyone's money when they decided not to stay AND there was apparently a bloke living in a hole in the wall behind a vending machine (possibly an urban ledgend but a good one!)

needless to say am more thorough with my searches for accomodation now AND won't be going back there

was called Hotel Carter if anyone wants to be warned off it!

Aimsmum - yes that one. We did too. We had Manhattans, had to be really didn't it? We shan't say how much it cost...

LOL - I was more terrified of the Pods that take you up...it feels like you are not attached to anything! Not good if you are a bit scared of heights!

Went for a five day break in NYC in Jan 08 - stayed at The Salisbury on 52nd street - booked through Expedia and got really good deal. Good size rooms however no bar in hotel. Good write up on Trip Adivsor ! Breakfast at Parisienne Cafe just round the corner - Fab !
