Hope somebody more useful to you comes along soon!

dp has been, but only with work and has said he 'd really like to go back (which is high praise indeed from him lol)

it's expensive though, food and drink costs a lot, especially alcohol

Went there last March - came back pregnant Must have been good!

A great country. Well worth a visit.

Fab place
Mega expensive (eyewateringly!)
Is it just you/you and dp/you and kids?

We stayed in central Reykjavik but after seeing the huge cathedral and a bit of shopping wanted to go furher afield

Blue lagoon worth a visit (as is the vaguely germananic public baths)

Worth hirng a 4x4 and going out to Geyser and Pingvar

Forget the zoo (unless really desperate)

We went with the dc's(4 and 6) and will be going back again in a few years

sagacious · 24/08/2008 21:16

blue lagoon is near the airport (they do a coach trip IRRC which includes airport transfer so you could do that on the way back (nice way to pre chill before your journey home dependant on flights obv.)

geordieminx · 24/08/2008 21:24

3 nights just dp and I, think a trip to the lagoon is included.

Thanks Sagacious

Weather will be nice too.
In summary the highlights are:
Hallgrimskirkja -the cathedral

Golden circle - Gullfoss, Geysir and Pingvellir

Blue Lagoon - you don't have to get completely naked in the showers beforehand if it worries you.

Perlan and Saga Museum

As already really said by Sagacious!

But she missed the Runtur - the notorious Bacchanalian pub crawl at the weekends that the locals do. Feel free to join in - they go absolutely wild I have never seen anything like it.

If you enjoy geography/geology, it (Iceland, is one of the best places in the world to go).

DS was there last year and found it fascinating.
