How long do you put LO in car seat for?

I know the rule is 2 hrs travel/30 min break, but do you follow that?
At what age can this be relaxed? I have a 10 month DS and I will keep doing this if needed, but I wondered how religiously it should be / is followed?
Thanks

I thought, though I am happy to be told I am wrong, that the limits are relevant whilst a baby can't sit up and hold their head up because they really need to be lying down more.

However, we still stop every two hours or so even though my DS's are 8 and nearly 5 yrs. They still need to stretch their legs. 2 hours is a good length of time to stop for a break for anybody.

thanks niecie for responding. i still do plan to stop, but sometimes we are like 20 minutes away from home and i think, we'd better stop as we've been travelling 2 hours. so it would be nice for it to be a little more relaxed now.
hopefully there won't be much traffic this friday
