Hello!
We booked our holiday yesterday and we are going to Lanzarote in just over a weeks' time. Can't wait, it's a much needed break for us all.
Really interested to hear if anyone's been, what they thought of it and any tips and recommendations for us during our stay. Places worth a visit would be interesting too.
TY xx

We had a lovely week there last November. It's a great little island. Small enough to explore easily, and really pretty.
Make sure to visit the house of Cesar Manrique, and go and eat some seafood at El Golfo.
We stayed in playa blanca. Very family friendly resort.

We went to Puerta del Carmen, very pretty and nothign allow to be built more than 2 stories high.

It has a long stretch of bars and restuarants - however old town is beautiful, full of tradtional restuarants def worth a visit.

Also evenings are always windy hence a little cooler so take some cardigans!

Thanks guys. Really helpful tips. Keep 'em coming please.

Please go to everything built by Cesar Manrique - Jameos Del Agua (volcanic caves turned into fab visitor space/cafebar), Cactus garden, Mirador, Timanfaya volcanos, Art gallery in Arrecife. Lagomar restaurant is also worth a visit but hard to find.

Hire a car and keep away from all the tack!

we went there last year and we caught a ferry and went cross to fuerteventura for the day.It is windy in lanzarote but even windier there. We were in an apartment at the top of a hill, as someone has already mentioned because the buildings are not very high,we had the most stunning view, the sea at the front and the mountains to our right,It was great.

Thanks for your replies. We holidayed in Fuertoventura a few years ago so that trip may not be on our to do list. Lots of people have recommended the volcano trip and also the submarine one. A few people have also mentioned something about the island crabs.

enjoy, we have been 7 times, lots of lovely places to eat and very friendly waiters.

lilyloo · 16/08/2008 20:39

We went in May agree quite windy so made it very temperate but needed cardigan at night.
We stayed in Playa Blanca would reccomend El Rancho Texas if you have dc.
The Costa Teguise market was good as was the Timanfaya volcano tour.
Ds went on he glass bottom boat that he reccomends
We stayed further down the harbour than Playa Blanca and had some lovely meals there.
It's a nice walk on an evening down the harbour and if you walk to the end away from Playa Blanca there is a lovely bar with swinging seats but is quite expensive can't remember the name.

i went and loved it especially the fact it isn't dominated by high rise hotels. the submarine is fab, the water park was ok but quite small i thought, we went to two markets one in teguise (sun) which was good and a smaller one in playa blanca (wed and sat)

lilyloo · 16/08/2008 23:06

apparantly water park not great was advised to go to Fuerteventura for water park !

nappyaddict · 16/08/2008 23:13

oh in puerto del carmen there is a nice restaurant with beds!

nappyaddict · 16/08/2008 23:14

give the lani's chain of restaurants a miss aswell. imo they are overpriced.

handsomeharrysmum · 16/08/2008 23:15

We went to the water park in Fuerteventura, did it is a trip, so the ferry was included, a really good day.

Sparkler · 16/08/2008 23:16
