The Post Office are usually pretty good for exchange rates - you can go in and order them

katz · 31/07/2008 13:33

thanks we check out their rates

Let us know what you find out Katz.

DD driving me mad waiting to go to your house. Setting off shortly. She has been asking how long since 8am!

katz · 01/08/2008 14:26

looking round M and S seem to have the best rate at 28.66 to the pound, nationwide and the post office give 27.23

Hello - I'm sorry I forgot to go back to the earlier thread on travel tips!

When we travel back to Prague I just take cash out at cashpoints with a card when I get here. There are several at the airport.

Re. what to do - this site has a good interactive map that shows you what there is near Pelhrimov. Click on MAPA in the menu. Pelhrimov is up in the top right-hand corner (it's a map of South Bohemia). Of the nearby places, Zeliv looks nice, so does Cervena Recice.

www.jiznicechy.org

www.mapy.cz is a good map. If you click on Turisticka and then tick the Turisticke trasy box, it'll show you the walking routes.

You should be able to buy a map of the area at the Palac knih bookshop half way up Wenceslas Square.

vesela · 04/08/2008 10:27

It looks as if there are some nice walks from Zeliv... e.g. the red path along the edge of the lake and then the river. Or green one through the fields...

thank you.

Do you speak Czech at all?

OP posts:
vesela · 04/08/2008 20:59

I do - anything I can do to help?

(I promise to check this thread more often now!)

katz · 04/08/2008 21:22

yes please

my daughter has a rare skin condition, which 99% of the time is fine but it would be useful to be able to have a translation of what is it. Would it be possible for you to translate some very basic details for me?

OP posts:
vesela · 04/08/2008 21:29

sure - I'm a native English speaker so it won't be perfect, but should be functional.

katz · 04/08/2008 21:40

thanks.

just thinking what would be the most useful information for us to take.

Going to have a think!

If you fancy meeting for a coffee whilst we're in Prague let us know.

OP posts:
vesela · 04/08/2008 21:49

that would be nice - I live 5 minutes' walk from the Old Town Square so not difficult to meet up (unless it's after August 15 when we're in England for a couple of weeks...)

katz · 04/08/2008 21:54

ah! we arrive late on the 13th but could do the 14th, actually would be quite good to get a local to advice us for the next couple of days we're in prague until the 16th.

Will have to point hula this way as i can't find the details for our prague flat ! i just know that its off wenslasles (sp) square!

That's a nice area to be in. I think you may be just above an echt Czech restaurant, too (U Sumavy).

The 14th is good, whatever time you're feeling like a rest!

I don't know about the tomtom, unfortunately.
