Anyone able to recommend a hotel in Amsterdam?

When I say cheap we;'re talking £50 - £70 a night BTW, and it doesn't have to be classy, just central.

thank you

Hotels in Amsterdam are really pricey, from what I remember. Are hostels an option? And are you looking for £50-70 for a single or a double?

we will pay around £400 for 4 nights, looking at houseboats now. Anyone done this?

it is pricey

I stayed in thw Eden Hotel Rembrandt Square and would recommend it. Was about 250E for double room for 3 nights and was very central. Not much character, vary chain-ish but you get what you pay for!

I'd look at tripadvisor: this place is the top-ranked B+B there, and is 100 euros/night. I had a look for hotels under $100 (USD) night, and found 21.

we stayed in the Season Star hotel which is near the station. The rooms were very small but clean and cheap and we had a really nice time.

The Holiday inn is okay.

Have you tried looking at short term rental apartments? They can be quite cheap.
