Anyone flown Qatar?

Hi, am looking at flights to Asia and Qatar are coming up as very cheap (always suspicious!). Never flown with them, but loved Ethiad and Emirates. Has anyone got experience with them? Thanks very much

haven't flown with them myself but my mum and sil have flown with them (at different times) and said they were good and would use them again.

Hi we've flown with them a few times very happily - they are quite similar to emirates. If you are changing flights in Doha I would recommend you wear conservative clothes or you may feel embarrassed (I mean sleeves / below the knee skirt).

I've flown with them to the Maldives when I was 27 weeks pregnant. They were very nice and gave me four seats to myself so i had a bit of extra room.

Changing planes in Doha is very easy - much easier then using Emirates and Dubai. Flights were all on time and crew were very pleasant. The entertainment units do take up a lot of room in every other seat bottom so leg room is restricted but I managed OK on both sectors.

Just be warned though, there are no jetbridges at Doha and so you will always be bussed to and from the plane and depending on what time of day it is it could be scorching hot. Out flight was at 11am and it was 114 degrees outside which made bus ride and the wait on the plane very uncomfortable - especially as I was pregnant but apart from that it was much easier then Emirates - and they didn't lose my luggage (even with only a 35min transit)unlike Emirates did in Dubai once with a 2 and a half hour transit!

Thank you all for your replies, I think I will go for it and test them out!

We've booked with them, and got a good price. I was nervous of the quality, but have read good reviews on airline review sites and tripadvisor. Not going till next year.

PrincessPeaHead · 02/08/2008 18:57

the reason they are cheaper is (I think) because they are a dry airline
ie no alcohol
not that that would bother me but It does some people

tiredemma · 02/08/2008 19:00

dp flew with them last year when travelling to dubai. He said that they were a fantastic airline.

Hersetta · 20/08/2008 15:48

Acually they are not dry - i flew 4 sectors with them last year and my Dh had beer and wine on all of them. the selection of alcohol is much smaller than with other airlines but it is definitely available on the trolley service.

i hate qatar. i was stuck on a grounded plane last summer for three hours and they wouldn't turn on the ac. (they did bring my ice water every once in a while) but it was horrible. this was in economy class.

i flew with them first class (on the way back to thailand) and i felt like i was sleeping on a slide with a foot hold. complete incline the entire time. and during turbulence i felt like i was going to slip down.

the food wasn't too bad...but i don't think i ate much because i was soo tired and trying not to slip down. it was a red eye flight.

also, both times when i was using qatar people were drinking.

eandz · 20/08/2008 16:01

ok, but to be fair, i only hated my experiences because i was tired and couldn't sleep in first class (and although it was a ticket paid for by work) i expected to be able to sleep

and the second time i was upset because i was hot and there was no ac until the plane was actually in the air...

the staff were nice.
