Can you recommend a good UK website selling flights?

I want to go LA via New York.

(Will it be lots more expensive that going to LA direct?)

I used Travelbag last year to book flights to Australia and found them very good.

What time of year are you thinking of going there, that will affect the cost too.

It may actually cost you a lot more to fly via New York to LA (US internal flights can also be expensive) rather than flying to LA direct.

Also you don't really want to spend any more time in the vast majority of US airports than you absolutely have to!!.

agree that internal flights in us are expensive. We always use kayak to find cheapest deals.

Thanks for those recommendations. I'll check them out. I'm on a budget, so solnds like New York is probably out.

Oh don't give up - we have family in LA and friends in NY we often broke the journey in NY. You usually need to use an American airline so United or American and then they let you break the journey - if not free, then for not much more at all.

Call someone like Trailfinders or Travelbag, they are specialists. Can't remember whos normally cheaper though.

www.cheapestflights.co.uk - I've used these before, as well as trailfinders and travelbag. Its a question of checking around, as diff ones are cheaper for diff dates/times/places etc

Ooh, I'm all excited now. However, I will be with my mother which could prove quite draining in NY.

I find BA website can be really useful for working out which are the cheapest days to fly, then go elsewhere to see if they can beat the price on other airlines (like Thomas Cook). BA website when they are having their sales is hard to beat though.

Have used trail finders before. They can get you a cheaper flight by getting you on a stop over from somewhere else. My flight to NY from London has stopped over in London from new Delhi! Someone got off there so I had their seat the rest of the journey. I then hopped to LA from NY. Give them a ring

Do you have specific dates in mind or are you flexible?
