new york city/state

planning to go to ny in November to visit bil, but cant stay at their flat, so was looking for accommodation in the city. bit surprised at how expensive even hostels are, so now wondering about going elsewhere in the state.

Any advice on nice places to go in the state (and stay) (within a reasonable budget) with a 1 year old would be very welcome.

No specific advice on places I'm afraid, but we always rent a vacation home - it works out much cheaper than hotels and you have your own kitchen which is much easier with kids. We use this website:

If you can find somewhere close by in New Jersey that fits the bill it's very close. While not quite Manhattan, Jersey City is literally just across the river and accessible by PATH train.

Try to stay in Hoboken, NJ. It's the best place and it's Frank Sinatra's home town.
