Late Deals - has anyone done one and was it any good?

Well, w're down to 2.5 weeks before holiday (not booked yet but time off from work is) and am seriously considering a late deal but wonder if it's too risky with 2 dds (5 and 2). Has anyone done it and did it work out ok?

I booked a late deal with Portland holidays and it was fine. We had a minor panic as the tickets didn't arrive until 3 days before the flight, everything else went ok
