Just been to this hotel for 2 weeks and wanted to report back that it is fantastic there. Such a huge complex, great selection of bars and food (9 a la carte restaurants)

I will definitely be going back, shame its such a long way away, 15 hours travelling we did and it completely knocked it out of us. 3rd day home today and I am starting to feel normal again!

Which resort was this at?
What was the weather like? We are going to the Tropical Princess in Bavaro 8 weeks today!!

kid · 06/07/2008 18:17

It was in Bavaro too.
The weather was great. It did rain a little bit but it literally lasted for 2 or 3 minutes during which time we continued to sunbathe! It wasn't cold at all. Night times were pleasant too, didn't need a jacket, just wore vest tops most of the time!

I am looking at going back already even though I have only been back a matter of days.

Hope you have a fantastic time too.

Sounds great thanks
Can you recommend any day trips etc?
Did you have any problems with mosquitos, been told there are lots.
I've been before but to the north of the island, Bavaro looks much nicer

There were loads of mosquitos there. I don't usually get bit but I did this time.
I found a mosquito band in a local chemist, I paid 8USD for it (about £4) and it lasted for 1 week.
There was another thing there were selling there for mosquitos. It was a patch that you scratch to activate and you can wear it on your clothes or skin. It offers protection for up to 12 hours. They sold them there for 15USD (through the first choice rep) but I checked them on ebay and you can get them there too.
here I am going to stock up on some to take with me.

We went to Dolphin Island and swam with the dolphins and also some nurse sharks. It was a great day out. We got a dvd of the photos they took too for 50USD. The trip cost 110 USD to swim with them and 20 USD to watch. Kids had to be over 8 to swim.

We also did the outback safari which was fun. Its great to go out into the countryside there and see how people live.

We were going to do deepsea fishing but never go round to booking it. It looked good though even if it was going to be a rocky ride!

The other trip we wanted to do was the ATV (all terrain vehicle). That also took you out into the countryside and to a cave where you could swim in fresh spring water. I was glad we didn't actually book that one though as the roads are quite scary due to there being no laws on the road!

I swam with Dolphins last time it was amazing. Did they have just a interaction option where you can just feed them/have picture taken next to them as ds1 is only 2?
My dad and pil are coming with us and wants to do this so will tell them
I done a outback safari last time but can't do it again as my ds's are too young as i remember it being quite bumpy.
Will look at those patches

kid · 07/07/2008 19:39

outback safari was very bumpy! Never seen potholes like they have there.

They didn't do they dolphin interaction bit, if you are just observing you don't really get that close to the dolphins.

They had another dolphin thing, it was called Dolphin Ocean but was very expensive. As it was in Puerto Plata, you had to get a plane there. It cost £369 USD each which would be about £185 each depending on exchange rate. We decided to go for the cheaper option ourself but you may consider that one.

I loved it there, intend to go back very soon

We stayed at that haotel about 18 months ago.
Absolutely fantastic, one of the only places I would consider going back to.
