weejie · 04/07/2008 10:38

I would have recommended Skegness LOL.

Loads to do there, lots of free decent shows/entertainment, small free fun fair. Obviously you could spend a fortune if you use the arcades etc. Pool is good. We stayed in standard accom which was clean etc (shower was a bit on the tiny side but clean).
We love skeggy and would have gone back there this year but couldn't get in when we wanted so are going to Butlins Minehead as we like that area and there is a lot to do as we tend to use the site mainly as a base.

anything partic you want to know?

Grav1 · 04/07/2008 19:10

We love Minehead and Bognor and are hoping to try Skegness this year. The Butlins appear to be much of a muchness. We all prefer the pool complex in Bognor but like Minehead and Bognor to do shop etc.

thats good Grav1 - really looking forward to it - is the accom OK at Minehead? Is there a Tesco just over the road from the site?

Grav1 · 04/07/2008 19:47

Yes there is a Tesco just across the road.(Petrol is more expensive there than the normal Tesco Prices and we usually top up in Morrisons, Bridgewater). No cafe there but there is a Mcdonalds next door(boo hoo). There is also a Somerfield and a Coop in Minehead itself. It is a lovely flat walk along the seafront.

We have never had any problems with the accomodation(clean but basic) but for the amount of time we spend in it I don't think it needs to be anything too special. What have you opted for?

As far as site seeing is concerned a trip to Dunster Castle and the village of Dunster is worthwhile. A word of warning about the really really steep hills to Lynton and Lynmouth( 1 is Porlock Hill if I remember correctly). We went up it once but did not fancy coming back down it so went via Exmoor on the way back.

What places do you recommend visiting around Skegness TTT? It is a fair trek for us and if we go we will be going for a week(usually we do a midweek break and that will give us plenty of time for sightseeing. Is there an adventure/theme type park near and if so have you been and would you recommend it for dd age 11 and ds age 8?

We went to Butlins for a week in April,at bognor. We thought it was great. We will return but will upgrade our accomadation next time as we were in Silver.Ok but quite basic. The hotel looks nice,if you stay there you can take part in their "character breakfasts".

Our Silver Apartment was also up a flight of metal staircases. My DD1 was 3 so I wasn't happy with her going down unaccompanied, and DD1 wasn't walking,so we had to carry her and her buggy up and down all week.So i definitely request ground Floor next time,or stay in hotel.

Butlins is great for 11 and 8 yo. If they want to sign up for any of the organised activities on site do it early in the morning, they are v popular.

there's fantasy island a short walk from the site which also has a large market.

the beach at skeggy is nice, there is a seal sanctury which is quite nice.

skeggy attractions

Thanks TTT. Those links are very useful. Also like the sound of the beach. I am not a very beachy person but the kids love it.

Yes the kids really enjoy the clubs and dd goes to most of them as it is a little bit of freedom away from us. Ds is not happy with the 5-8 club as it is too craft orientated for him. He loves the football and other activities though and I think Butlins entertainment is brill.
