I went there on a school trip in 1990! We caught the water bus into Venice and it didn't take long. Beach was okay too but a bit 'downmarket'. Clearly a lot could have changed in nearly 20 years!

TotalChaos · 03/07/2008 11:27

My mum has been a few times, she really likes it = it's a modern purpose built resort, with access to Venice via the water bus.

Nice to be so close to Venice and we also did a day trip to Austria while there (16 years ago). I was there with two girlfriends and we had a very bad experience with a local stalker who seemed to be everywhere we were. He was quite disturbed (we found out he had sexually assaulted a holiday rep the previous year) and it culminated in him attacking us on the beach with me taking a punch from him. So I won't be back but it is a good location apart from the stalker!

The place is tackyville, the only good thing about it is its proximity to Venice for easy day trips. The seawater quality is not the best around there either, and there's a highly polluting chemical plant only a few km down the coast. Tip - don't order spaghetti with giant clams.

thanks ,I had a feeling it may not be what am looking for.

frazzled74 · 04/07/2008 09:03

The Tuscan coast is lovely (though expensive), lots of sandy beaches and shallow water. Lazio not bad either. Alternatively if you want to stay on the adriatic side then I'd recomment Le Marche/Abruzzo/Molise or even Puglia. The further down you go the better the sea quality and, imo, the food.

Sardinia, of course, is particularly lovely, though you will need a car if you don't want to go mad. Ditto Sicily.

What time of year were you thinking of going? If in August it'll be expensive and crowded everywhere as the Italians are on holiday. In September you can pick up some bargains, we went to Sardinia the first week of Sept one year and it didn't cost us much compare to the extortionate prices of August.

My Mum and Dad love it.

themildmannneredjanitor · 04/07/2008 11:14

we've just come back from italy-stayed about a 20/30 minute drive from lido de jesolo and i thought it was nice.
i find some of the comments on here really snobby.

it's very tourist orientated-the main street is all bars/restaraunts/shops. theere is a beach and it's easy to get to venice. we stayed further down near punto sabbione and that was a lot quieter and it was pleasant!
the only thing i would say is ;
MOSQUITOS!!!

hundreds and hundreds of the fuckers and they are are enormous'tiger' mosquitos too.
we were absolutely covered in bites. they really were relentless. we wouldn't go again purely bevause of them.
BUT- the place-we liked it.

MsDemeanor · 04/07/2008 11:17

Very touristy BUT it has loads of restaurants and shops, a big sandy beach and is minutes from Venice. I went there about a hundred years ago with my mum simply because it was so cheap, but I will never forget what a fab holiday it was - sitting eating spit-roast chicken on the beach at dusk, wandering round Venice, eating pizza in a pizzeria then having an ice cream while walking around the busy streets.
Don't know what it's like now, but I'd guess kids would love it.

frazzled74 · 04/07/2008 11:53

maybe will just book it, went to venice on honeymoon and would like to go back .does anyone know how cheap and quick it is to get to venice on waterbus?

OP posts:
billgray · 04/07/2008 12:07

you can buy a 12 hour ticket which covers you for the journey over to the city and all the waterbuses for 12 hours. costs 14 euros.

took about 30 mins from punta sabbione which is where you would go from probably.

MarsLady · 04/07/2008 12:08

I have such fond memories of Lido de Jesolo. Sigh... Dancing all night with Andrea, lying on the beach with Andrea... Good times!

Leslaki · 07/07/2008 16:18

we're going here which isn't a million miles away from Lido de Jesolo but I'm hoping is much nocer going by some of the comments on here (please let it be nice!!!!

noddyholder · 07/07/2008 16:20

My ds went there on a school trip last summer and came back with strep throat after snogging a girl on the coach who had already been snogged by a few others .Pictures looked lovely but touristy
