We're going on holiday with my husband's parents but we're staying in different apartments. Our hotel has a small roof terrace (no bar or pool etc just some seats) I think from what I can tell, the apartments aren't manned 24/7 but will probably have secure doors to get into the building. Anyway on to my question, would you chance letting them in to the building to have some drinks on the terrace. There's something telling me we shouldn't do it. We certainly wouldn't be rowdy ! Just a quiet drink to start our evening. My husband thinks we'll be ok. I'm a born worrier and don't want to get into trouble! If the terrace had of her guests we probably wouldn't sit out. But then again, who's to know whether my PIL are also guests or not?

I don’t see the problem

If its not all inclusive and they or you buy their drinks I can't see why not. It's just like having a drink in a hotel bar in the UK, perfectly normal.

Is it an apartment or an hotel?

EerieDemeanour · 01/11/2026 19:02

I think a couple of guests having a quiet drink would be fine, it would be different if it were a big group taking up all the chairs so actual guests couldn’t use them, being noisy etc.

It's not all inclusive. It's just apartments. We booked on booking.com but they're also on AirBnB. So we'd be bringing our own drinks up there.

Is it a hotel, in which case they will have rules about guests (our recent one was fine until 10pm) or a private let in which case they will also have rules which you should ask for - if a private let they may have cameras so will know.

Plump82 · 01/11/2026 19:06

No we definitely wouldn't make any noise. Just one glass of fizz before heading for dinner.

They do have cameras. The full building is owned/managed by the one person who I assume is a business. There's about 7 apartments.

So I would just ask them? Say our parents would like to pop in for a coffee/drink hope that’s ok, unless your booking form/confirmation says it’s not allowed? I get the anxiety, I was worried about my brother who lives where we stayed and his family coming to our hotel room, so it was a relief to see the signs up with the hotel rules.

I can’t see this causing any issues OP.

MaidsRoom · 01/11/2026 22:03

Sounds fine.

PaperPanama · 01/11/2026 23:32

Of course you can. Why ever not? There will only be rules about not having unregistered guests staying overnight.
