Do it!
You’re driving I presume? There are three main areas.
Shark Valley (just a visitor centre and a trail) off the Tamiami trail between Naples and Miami, but closer to Miami. You can also visit the Big Cypress Wildlife Management Area between there and Naples (free).
Everglades City, which is where the excellent 10,000 Islands boat trip used to go from, but I think that’s now moved a little closer to Naples. Everglades City is a village really. I’m not sure whether the visitor centre is back open after a hurricane in 2022.
Flamingo, which has its own visitor centre and boat trips out into the Keys, and back inland to Coot Bay, accessible via a long drive from Homestead. The drive is excellent, with plenty of stopping-off points for trails.
There’s a hotel at Flamingo, which looks good, but I have not been.
In January the birdlife is absolutely stunning. My favourite is the Anhinga Trail. Lots of Anhingas (like cormorants), numerous other birds, and many, many alligators - who growl (really!), apparently to greet each other in the morning. Go early, before anyone else gets there.
You’re probably aware of the park fee changes, but if not, you now have to pay $100 per person on top of the $35 (for 7 days) per vehicle charge unless you are a US citizen. Assuming you’re a couple, if there’s any chance you’ll want to visit another US National Park, or a National Forest or Monument that has fees within the year you will be better off getting an America the Beautiful annual pass at $250 per vehicle. If you’re a family the annual pass is a no-brainer.
