Places to wander/eat - away from the big resorts?

Santa Cruz is a normal Spanish city. The Nuestra Señora de África market is very good and there are museums, parks, etc.

If you are in the Costa Adeje/Playa de las Americas area, you can get the bus up to Adeje town, which is mostly inhabited by local people (and some longer-term foreign residents). Do the Barranco del Infierno walk, but respect the guidance regarding weather.

There is a pretty good bus ("guaguas") network and it's mostly used by local people.

Thank you. We will have a car so can get around easily.

La Laguna is the old capital so worth a visit. There are also some pyramids on the south coast between the airport and Santa Cruz. Also Los Gigantes.

Teide is another must but check the weather and prepare. We didn't even get to the top of the mountain but the surrounding area was freezing cold and very windy despite it being hot and sunny on the south coast. I had several layers on including leggings under jeans and it wasn't enough.

Where are you staying? Both the far north east and north west look interesting, off the beaten track and very different to the south coast resorts.

Thank you. We’re staying in Los Gigantes actually in a friend’s place. Have been before but this time will have car so want to explore the more traditional areas.

In that case, I'd be tempted to book an overnight stay in Santa Cruz or somewhere else at the north east of the island and spend two days driving there and back, stopping off at anywhere on the way that looks interesting on Google maps or is sign posted on the way. Perhaps go over past Teide on the way there and back along the main north road.

The island of La Gomera is very traditional and you can take ferry over but think need cicar if it's a hire car and to let them know.
