We have booked the salt mines! We are staying near the old town, 2 adults and ds14 and dd10. Like exploring, history, shopping etc... Any tips or recommendations? TIA

  • We're not going to Auschwitz.

There's lots of really nice restaurants. Our favourite was one called Bufet and we sat at the bar that was fun.

gravitarse · 26/10/2026 08:29

We also booked a food walking tour with get your guide and she was nice

The wax museum is very entertaining. We laughed a lot.

The Schindler Museum is also excellent.

Plac Nowy has market stalls and bars and serves the famous zapiekanka which is like an open pizza sandwich. Kazimierez is quite different from the rest of Krakow. There's a Banksy Museum nearby as well but we didn't do that. We liked the Pierogi at Mirror Bistro in the Kazimierez area. Milk Bars are all over Poland too if you are hungry and want something cheap with large portions - they are subsidised by the state and have screens with pictures of the food so you don't have to embarrass yourself trying to pronounce the order.

We did Schindler's Factory but if you aren't doing Auschwitz you might not want to do that either.

There's a big wheel by the river and a small fairground which is quite nice at night for lights/view. After or before you can walk along to the dragon statue and see the flames.

Book a tour of the Jewish Wuarter. There’s some great restaurants and street food.

Sit in the town square and watch the world go by. We left the kids at home and it was great just to relax knowing we didn’t have to be anywhere or cook.x

Maybe a bit low brow but I’d go to Energylandia it’s an amazing theme park best coaster in Europe and great food and drinks. Reachable by uber from Krakow

gravitarse · 26/10/2026 21:14

except don't use Uber use bolt and if you arrive at the airport if you google where to stand to order a bolt that's really useful

Walking tour of the Jewish Quarter was really interesting, the explanation of the history and standing where it happened was very emotional. Highly recommend

We did a day trip to Zakopane and the thermal baths through Get Your Guide, if you want to get out the city.

Krakow Pinball Museum is a great way to spend an afternoon. It’s a retro gaming place, full off pinball machines and classic arcade games. Good value entry fee, too. It’s near the castle, so walkable.

I loved Krakow, I just knew we were going to have a good time as soon as we stepped out onto a main street approaching the square. DH would stay out for an extra drink at 10pm and I felt really safe walking back on my own - in fact, I found myself investigating and enjoy things.

The Jewish Quarter is thought provoking especially the empty chairs in Ghetto Heroes Square. We did Shindlers Factory. The Town Hall Tower in the main square is a nice thing to do and I imagine younger ones will love it for the fun of going up the chairs to the top. As you're walking around, look at restaurants on the main/side streets away fromt he square - they are equally as good and a lot cheaper - there's also a river boat you can eat on at night - it was quiet but our food was good. I didn't have one, but there are some impressive looking pastries in bakery shops for anyone who enjoys. We enjoyed ambling around the park surrounding the Old Town.

The Crazy Guide to Communist Krakow was one of the most fascinating & hilarious couple of hours of my life! Did it last Feb & was worth every penny.
Our kids loved the wax work museum for sheer silliness.

came here to say this and I loved it as a friend woman. wasn't a fan of the pinball machines but had a go on lots of old arcade machines. we used public transport but would have been cheap to taxi there and back and probably worth it with four of you
