Looking for ideas for family of 4, 2 weeks during school summer holidays. They love the beach, and a swimming pool, and are daily easily pleased.
Budget of between 5-6K (though anything saved would be a bonus).
OH and I travelled alot pre children-‘most of Europe, SEAsia,America etc.
Now they are a little older, I’m wanting to start to go back to the type of things we used to do. 2 weeks in Thailand (east coast due to monsoon season) is our favourite at the moment, but I’m also wondering if I’ve missed anything else for the shortlist?
Not really after package holidays, like to keep busy and explore local areas.
Previous summers have been made up of 2 or 3 shorter trips, but that becomes a lot to pack and plan, and I’m hoping this will work better for us all.
any ideas appreciated.

That age - eurocamp type thing in France either own tent (fun for the kids, more hassle for the adults) or a lodge. But then we had a much tighter budget. In more recent years when they’ve been slightly older - Norway fjords cruise with P&O

We went to Singapore and Malaysia this summer with a 8 and 6 year old. It was by far the best holiday we have had with them. We travelled around quite a lot. We went to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Teman Negara, Tioman island and back to Singapore via Legoland Malaysia. They both dealt with the travelling and heat better than I expected! I think it helped that everyone spoke very good English.
Previously all our holidays had been eurocamp or uk self catering. It was way more fun -and they agreed.

Ditto this! Or Bali with Singapore.

One really good holiday we had with our 7 and 9 year old was a twin Center holiday in St Lucia. For the first half of the trip we went on various excursions, boat trips and so on. We stayed in a little house with a communal pool that was about 5/10 minute walk to a lovely beach with a great place for lunch. Each evening we ate somewhere different. Then we transferred to a lovely all inclusive hotel and chilled and tried different activities and all the different restaurants.

We also did a similar trip in Cuba the year before that worked well.

Another suggestion is Cape Town, we went when the DC were 10 and 12.

We’ve just done Vietnam with a stop in Malaysia. I have to say I’ve travelled extensively and Vietnam blew me away

My kids loved our holidays in the Alps. Usually self catering. Occasionally camping. Young adults now and still love it. As teens they got into sailing, but yours are a bit young and you’d need to be sailors yourself.

Thank you. Fjords are definitely in my list, just worry they will ruin the tranquility :)
Will look into the euro camps, forget they are an option.

thats hard because depends on the kids I hated package and all inclusive but to answer your question your question that’s the stage we are at. With beach and water activities, indoor sports and activities, evening entertainment and a decent all inclusive environment I could not believe how well it worked. We have four, slightly younger but we could do so much and budget allowed for trips as well.

Disney world, worth every penny if you can afford it.

if not Jaz AquaViva in hurgarda is fab as it’s a huge waterpark with pretty decent rooms / food and first time I’ve been to t’gypt without getting a bad tummy

The one my child enjoyed most at that age was definitely Florida. We did Disney when was five and then universal for all the Harry Potter stuff when she was ten. I think we hit the perfect ages for both. I was expecting to hate it as I have travelled widely and didn’t think that was my thing at all but I was pleasantly surprised. I wouldn’t go again during Trump’s tenure though.

Mine lived Duinrell at that age! Not what you are looking for either that budget though!

I was coming on to say Malaysia (KL) as well. Slightly different for me as I can stay with family there but I took my kids a few years ago and we had an absolute blast doing all the touristy things. We did a batik painting class, went to the pewter museum and made a bowl each, went swimming, visited the Twin Towers and the Science Museum (they loved the little ride), wandered the malls, did the Revolving Restaurant. We also went to see the fireflies which was magical.
If you go, the Klook app was really helpful.

My fav holiday at those ages was
5 days Algarve self catering
2 nights Lisbon
1 night Sintra
5 nights all inclusive to finish off with ease

A mix of beach, pool, train travel, sinatra adventure, Lisbon, then chill at the end with kids clubs and adult pool quietness. I was bang on the money with that and it was loved by all.

Honestly we just continued to travel, so our kids (no older than yours) have been to many countries and honestly anything is possible. Indonesia is good for drier weather in August, maybe a bit of time in Java for Borobudur and other cultural sites and then some time in Bali or Lombok or other neighbouring islands. Sri Lanka is often recommended on Mumsnet, I've not been with the kids but have been before they were even thought of. It is a great country. I think Costa Rica would be a really cool trip, but quite wet in August. We just went overlanding in Southern Africa last August, that was fabulous, but was quite a bit over your budget, one to save up for in the future.

We enjoyed the camps we went to in Italy. Look at the ones near Venice.

With kids that age our best one was Menorca.
