Japan - toilets ?

We're thinking about a tour of Japan in 2027, but there's a problem.
I have knees & hip problems, & find squat toilets impossible.
I've used a shewee, but then have to carry it around with me, & it's obviously no use for solids.
What's the situation in Japan, please ?

Most public toilets in Japan are high-tech. Music while you wee, heated seat, various post-business spray options. I've been twice and the only squat toilets I remember were in monasteries.

You know when you've been away on holiday, and one thing you're looking forward to, is coming home to your own loo?

Japan ruined that for me. I've never been so depressed to see my own throne.

Japanese toilets are next level.

You might encounter a few squat toilets but mostly it’ll be modern Totos

Japanese toilets are amazing. I didn’t encounter any squat toilets, instead they were comfortable, warm, music playing toilets with optional washing facilities. public toilets are regularly available and immaculate.

The Japanese toilets were so amazing I have installed one in my house as like a PP, British toilets are sadly lacking.

You’ll find mostly western style toilets especially if you’re sticking to the tourist trail, in a big shopping centre you might find one or two squat types and at a motorway services in deepest inaka you might find one or two western style and mostly squat type. You’ll be fine, their disabled/accesible facilities are always amazing so just use those..

We didn't come across any squat loos. Japanese public toilets generally put ours to shame. I remember going to the loo at Tokyo airport after we got off the plane and being so excited, telling DH about the bidet functions, dryer, music and birdsong recordings 😁. DH was 🤨.

Japan is amazing.

Watch ‘Perfect Days’, it’s about a Japanese toilet cleaner. Sounds random but it’s a beautiful, very moving film (with a lot of hi tech toilets)

I only saw squat toilets at Ueno zoo but they also had high tech toilets too, Japanese toilets are indeed next level up with water sprays, heated seat and music played when flushing.

People hang out packets of tissues on the streets for use in toilets in case there is no toilet paper.
