I'm off to new york next week with my daughter and try as I might, she'll want to be on her phone and posting to Instgram etc! Anyway, websites keep mentioning e-sims. Please can someone explain this to be in a "dummy guide" way - how do I get one, how do I set it up, how does it work?!

Have you checked whether her contract allows her to use it abroad, it possibly will, mine does.

Even if it doesn’t, airplane mode and wifi worked perfectly for my 18 year old and he could connect everywhere.

I've used BNE eSIM in the US. You buy a data roaming package before you depart and set it up. Then you need to turn off your home network and data roaming and then switch to eSIM when you land (there's instructions online to do this). It's always worked out a lot cheaper than using the data roaming rates my UK provider charges for the US.

I used Holafly, buy it before you go and then switch between SIMs when you land so you use Holafly for mobile data.
