Starting from scratch with this. I don’t know anything about “The Lakes” in Italy.

Looking for somewhere in a town / Italian scenery surrounding. Appropriate for 3-4 nights. Flying from UK.

Obviously I’ve googled and looked at the main 3, but looking for recommendations as a starting point to start narrowing it down. There is SO MUCH information out there!

Do you want proper mountains?
What time of year do you go?
What are your interests?

We went to Bardolino in Lake Garda in August. Nice town, good restaurants and plenty to do.

But if I would go again I would look more into going to the north to the Dolomites to Riva del Garda for example, far more interesting nature wise.

You can go to Verona or Mantua for a day, if you like long days you can stretch to Venice as a day trip.

You need to take into account that the season basically closes end of September/early October and opens in April and even then you may have still snow.

I adore Lake Como, my aunt has a house in Argegno with views of the lake. It’s breathtaking. They also have a boat so I was lucky enough to swim (bloody freezing as the water is off the alps) but what an experience. I’ll attach a photo.

Lake Garda is the largest but Como and Maggiore more in the mountain scenery. Who is going with you and when? Lake Garda is very family orientated but gets very busy from mid July to end August.
