Does anyone have any recommendations for things to do, places to eat, or day trips by public transport from Murcia City please? Two adults, early 60s, visiting in February. We will already have spent time in Alicante (the town itself plus trips along the coast to the north). Thank you!

We stayed in Sercotel JC1 Murcia. It was great and there was a tram stop right outside to get into the city. There is also plenty of ways to get around from the train station from there. On a Sunday, there is very little open as its such a religious area. It was lovely having a wander and we found a corner shop for essentials and a bakery for cold pizza. We were starting to panic as there were no restaurants open at all and my daughter was getting hangry!

If you are stuck in the same boat, I highly recommend visiting Fernando Gomez Bakery on 60 C. Mayor if you are in the same area.

There was a tabletop antiques sale along the river.

Murcia city is stunning and there is lots to see. The cathedral is beautiful. There is a theatre and gorgeous restaurant area. It was very atmospheric at night and there was lots of history and culture.

I highly recommend the Mercado de Correos lots of choice for food and very atmospheric!

I also recommend visiting Cartagena! Lots of history.

Definately also have a wander across the river and take flat shoes as there is lots to explore. We also did alicante too by train.

We went in Mid feb and it was sleeting getting on the plane and then we were in summer clothes there! I loved it as we had never been away for winter sun before!

Thanks for the tip about Sundays @LifeMakesMyFaceAche
We always rent an apartment but I’ve been caught out before in other Spanish towns with supermarkets being shut on Sundays. On previous trips to Spain, the restaurants have been mainly open but it’s sometimes hard to get a table.

We have had quite a few winter holidays in Spain, mainly in the Malaga area and I love that you can fly for less than 3 hours and be into T shirt weather in the day time.
