Greece with a dairy allergy

We are going to Greece next week and staying AI. Being an idiot I completely didn’t consider that 10 month old dd has a few serious allergies - dairy, oats and oranges (!) being the worse offenders. Will we be ok finding dairy free alternatives of things like milk? I was so consumed with taking 4 small dc abroad, the allergy issue slipped my mind.

I have a dairy allergy.

i found vegan restaurants in Athens no problem.

if you are in a small island with few shops it may be more of a problem. It’s hard to avoid contamination at AI buffets although a ten months old what sort of food are they eating?

Does it include things like goat and sheep’s milk? Apologies if that’s an ignorant question.
Large ai hotel buffets that cater to tourists, I would expect there to soy or almond available or similar.

You can make allergy cards pretty easy, to carry with you. I will attach a picture of one. You have one side English, the other side Greek. My son is allergic to milk, and sun cream. We managed Greece.

Every hotel I’ve stayed in for years has had alternative milks and an allergies section. But being so young are they still on formula? I would take your own plus snacks to be safe. Email the hotel but you should be able to get plain vegetables, rice , chips, fruits, soy yogurt etc

It wasn't a big issue for me. Talk to the staff.

Thanks everyone, sounds like it will be ok!

To answer qs, she is bf so she (and I) have to be dairy free, including goat and sheep milk. I was mainly thinking of breakfast I guess and being able to give her cereal (with an alt milk), toast or yoghurt. Will pack some other things just in case.

I’m vegan and find Greece a really good country to cater for vegans! Dairy free milk is plentiful in supermarkets and hotels. Please ask if you cannot see dairy free options at the hotel! Most will gratefully cater for you.
in fact, dairy free cheese and other dairy alternatives are quite common in Greece as they give up dairy for lent!
