Montreal/Quebec City, plus a bit of driving about …

Having just come back from a slightly disappointing holiday, am turning my head to planning the next one so we can fit a fair bit in to a relatively short time.

We arrive in Montreal in the evening, so will just book an airport hotel or similar, then kick off early the next morning. Not counting the first night, we will have 8 nights then fly out late evening on the last day.

My current thinking is that we’ll do 2 nights in Montreal, 3 nights in QC, 3 nights drive about. Fancy train journey between Montreal and QC, then hire car and drive up to Tadoussac, but open to being told this is daft and we should just use the Chemin du Roy route for the driving bit.

Would appreciate any experience, so we can make the most of it. We are going at the end of May.

No help as never been to Montréal but I’ve seen footage of Québec city and wow! It’s just stunning! I’m incredibly jealous. I’ve only ever been to Vancouver, Vancouver Island, Vernon & Toronto. Québec city is on my bucket list though! Enjoy OP.

One tip I will give you, is to check out Canadian Affair for Canadian holiday planning, they’re great! They make it so easy 🇨🇦

There is so much to see and do in Montreal you need at least three days to do it justice. QC is very compact but hilly and needs a reasonable level of physical fitness. If you were on a really tight schedule you could see a lot in one very full day.
Canadian trains are easy to book and comfortable but we found they were often running late.

I wouldn’t bother with a train between the two- the drive is super easy and pretty. I love both cities. Olive et Gourmando in Montreal for the best breakfast of your life. Day trip from Quebec to Montmorency Falls. The Quebec countryside is GORGEOUS- you could head to Lac Massawippi and the Eastern Townships. Stunning countryside and lakes and beautiful B&Bs with incredible local produce. Or head to Mont Tremblant if you fancy something more mountainous. Charlevoix also has a good rep.

We continued on and did a huge road trip around New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI but I don’t think you’ll have time for that.

Stunning, underrated part of the world though, not full of tourists at all!

Done both Montreal and Quebec City; caught train between them having flown into Montreal. Train travel very easy.

Did 3 nights in Montreal, 2 nights in QC. Enough time in both from memory.
