Looking for a short 2 night break during October half term and I've left things a little late. It's just DS8 and I, so looking for somewhere easy, safe and convenient. Being a single parent I hestitate somewhat still travelling alone with a child. That said we've gone to a few places in the UK and abroad.

Give me your ideas please MN.

Edited to say we're travelling from the SE and budget not much an issue as picking somewhere convenient with things to do!

We are going to Brighton for a couple of nights to explore. Train straight there from our local station in under an hour, places to explore, things to do with the kids (10&12). Got a family room at a central premier inn so it’s convenient. If it’s crap we can leave 🤣

Definitely looking for somewhere by train.
Brighton is bustling so you should be able to keep DC entertained!

Have you considered an organised coach holiday? Some companies do family friendly ones and everything is organised for you.

What kind of things do you like to do/see?

If you like travelling by train, why not get the Eurostar to Paris or Amsterdam or Bruges?

Edinburgh is a lovely city to get to by train - it's a stunning journey once you get beyond York.

Or you could go further and get the sleeper train up to the highlands- my kids love it! A few days there to get some outdoor activities in (Aviemore has loads of family friendly hotels). From there get the train to Edinburgh for a couple of days to hit the museums (dynamic earth and camera obscura are fab for that age), then train back to King's X.
