Spanish bank hols 6/8 December

We are thinking of a trip to Barcelona 7th-11th December (Mon-Fri).

Google tells me that 6 Dec is Constitution day and 8th December a bank hol for religious holiday (immaculate conception). Things such as museums may be closed on the Monday and that the long weekend in general means things may be busier.

I was just wondering whether anyone has any experience of being in a Spanish city at this time and what this means in practice?
Monday is a well timed flight for us (we’d arrive mid afternoon).

We’ve been to Madrid twice on December 8th. It’s wonderful, they turn on the Christmas lights and open the Christmas Markets and a street procession.

didn’t notice any thing closed, but on both occasions the city centre was exceptionally busy.

Yes - I’d avoid these dates personally. Not only the crowds but the prices of everything, especially accommodation shoot up. And the shops do all close on the 6th and 8th. The Spanish get what are called “bridge” holidays where you get the day between the two off work as well, so everyone goes away for a pre-Xmas holiday, and Barcelona is a very popular destination for the Spanish as well. We are Spanish and are using ours to escape to Toulouse (in France no holiday so it’s cheap!) Can you do the week before or after?

Thanks both. I’m thinking it may be a bit of swings and roundabouts that some people may travel into Barcelona, but likewise some of those who live there may travel out. Certainly, looking at accommodation, there is loads available, I don’t know what it’s like to book there normally but it’s certainly cheaper than when we went to Paris earlier this year (or perhaps that’s just the difference between April and December).

It’s a bit of an extra break and that’s the only week that works for us. We were originally thinking Christmas market via Eurostar but the journey would be longer than we weee originally thinking and if I’m going on a plane I want some chance of better weather than at home, so we thought Spain.

What @BigGra describes sounds quite nice, although of course, Barcelona may be very different.

Whereabouts in Spain are you from @EspanaPorfavor?
