how much spending money???

we are off for a fortnight in spain in 2 weeks time (i can't wait ) However, money is really tight. we won't be eating out more than a couple of times a week and will be eating in our apartment the rest of the time. We are going self catering. there's me and dh and two small children. How much spending money is realistic these days? we won't be buying anything just really food and drink. how much would you take? thanks.

whereabouts in Spain are you going? The good news is that they have Lidl in most parts of Spain we've been to - where the same things are often even cheaper than in the UK (especially wine, beer, spirits!) If there isn't a Lidl nearby, or one of the big supermarket chains, it'll be a bit more expensive in the smaller local supermarkets, but not really any more expensive than the UK (although some things like breakfast cereal can be more expensive than here, and you need to look at local brands/foods rather than necessarily buy the same things you would at home). I would work out how much you would normally spend in the UK, and then add a bit more as you won't have your storecupboard to rely on and you might want to treat yourself a bit. Would appreciate other people's experiences just to be sure I haven't given you duff info!
