We're going to Oman in a couple of weeks. First time in Arabia.

What are some good things to do? We've not actually booked anything.

A dolphin tour on a traditional wooden dhow boat. You can go overnight & sleep on the top with delicious Arabian food. Plenty of swimming opportunities.

Which area?

It was Musandam. We drove from Dubai then got on the dhow in the afternoon. If you choose the overnight trip take some warmer clothes. It was an incredible experience.

I can't remember what time of the year it happens, but visiting Ras al somewhere to see the turtles laying their eggs, and possibly the hatchlings making their way to the sea is magical.
You do need permission, although we went 25 years ago so by now there's probably an agency who can sort it out.
Enjoy yourself, our DD was born there 25 years ago

Driving is very easy in Oman. Try and visit Nizwa Fort and the food markets.. excellent spices, dates, coffee to bring home. We also did a boat trip to the Daymaniyat island and had an amazing time snorkelling with turtles, rays and sharks.

Also you must visit a Wadi. We went to Al Batinah and swam through the Wadi which was spectacular.

We hired a driver - organised by the hotel - who took us out for the best part of the day to see the sights including grand mosque, fish market, souk etc and his own village which was lovely. Well worth it to get an insider’s view
