Is Palma worth visiting?

A very rare opportunity for a 3 day break for my husbands 40th without our son. Looking for a short flight so Majorca is a good option as want to relax by the pool, maybe take a boat ride, have a leisurely walk round, nice restaurants and bars but not a long transfer. Is palma the best option?

Thanks!

I went for my 40th and really liked it. We went towards the end of March and the weather was lovely, not quite sunbathing weather but very nice for wandering out. Lots of very fragrant orange blossom in the air. If you like fine dining there are some great options. Also lots of arty / historical things to do, but nothing is too overwhelming. Good shopping. Old town largely pedestrianised. Bus network is great, and you can do a day trip on the old fashioned tram to a few cute local towns. I really liked it.

i go away yearly with a group of friends so we always pick locations with short transfers and good restaurants. We’ve been to Palma twice, most recently in June and had a fab time, I can even give you some restaurant recommendations. Another place we really enjoyed was Mahon in Menorca. We stayed in a hotel near the city so could walk there and again went to some amazing restaurants.

@TheLette thank you, I’m looking at June so definitely want it to be more a relaxing break and drinks and food in the evening

If you want a relaxing break wouldn't it be better to go to somewhere smaller? It was a nice city break but I don't think you'd be able to do much relaxing/sunbathing and exploring in 3 days.

@TheLette I’m open to anywhere hot, but really need it to be a shortish flight with a quick transfer. Any suggestions?

Really recommend El Camino for tapas
and small plates, beautiful food. And Abaco Bar, just for the spectacle and novelty! 😊

The first time we stayed a bit further away from the city at a hotel called: Melia Palma Bosque. We did walk but sometimes got an uber. This time we stayed at Hotel Saratoga. It’s very close to everything but the pool area is smaller.
Restaurants I would highly recommend are: Tast Club, El Camino and Dôme.

Had a lovely trip there. Also consider Malaga or Alicante.

If a short flight, why not Europe? I love
Barcelona as it has the perfect combination beach, architecture & vibrant city life

I've only been to Palma as a day trip in the heat of the summer so it was more an ordeal than enjoyable & tbh if I wanted a Spanish city break there are several places I prefer.

You could stay away from Palma and just do it as a day trip if you really want to spend most of your time relaxing by the pool.

Whatever you decide, I'd recommend an adults only hotel. We had to go to one of the busier Mallorca resorts for a family gathering and the hotel definitely made the experience so much better.

Palma is perfect for your criteria. Really recommend it. A charming city, great shopping, many chic restaurants and bars (casual ones too), many hotels and a short airport transfer.

I was surprised by how much I liked Palma. One of the nicer places i have been and i would go back.

I love Palma! If you want a pool / beach, maybe consider staying somewhere like Can Pastilla or Playa de Palma, only 5-10 mins in a cab from the airport, and the bus into Palma runs very regularly, costs 2 Euro and takes about 30 mins

Yes, agree! Have done all three of these in last 18 months and was particularly impressed with Malaga!
