Will a 24-degree pool be too cool for a 9-month-old?

Ive booked a holiday in Lanzarote for march next year. I've just found out There is a children's jacuzzi which is heated to 31 but all pools, including children's pool, are heated to 24 degrees. I'm worried this will be too cool for a baby? We can cancel and lose our deposit which I would rather do than get there and be disappointed and unable to use the pools...but also unsure if I'm overthinking it? I'm a first time mum so any advice appreciated! Baby will be 9 months when we go.

Yes it'll be fucking freezing.

Local children aren’t “fucking freezing” and in the sea practically year round. Can you not go to the beach and have the baby play in the very shallow water right on the shore, which is quite warm due to being in the sun in being, ehm, shallow?

That’s very cold to just be standing in with a baby. The baby won’t be pleased and you’ll last minutes.

In March? The sea isn't going to be warmly lapping at your toes.
Older kids will splash around for a bit, but a baby will be very cold very fast.

Yes it will be too cold. Unless it is very very hot but it most likely won't be in March.

Local children will still be wearing coats in March and not in outdoor pools! Especially babies!

Too cold for me, let alone a baby.

Morechocmorechoc · 25/09/2026 21:54

Way too cold. You cant go that close to home in March and use that type of pool.

Our local lido is heated to 24 degrees. It's ok for swimming lengths but not really for floating/splashing around. I wouldn't expect a 9mo to be using pools too much anyway though. Unless the pool is really warm, they are usually done after 30 mins maximum. I think you could have a lovely time pottering around by the pool, beach, visiting places, but if you want to use the pool lots It's probably a bit early in the season.

Coats, in March, in the Canary Islands? Perhaps you mean the mainland.

Of course it will be colder than say, August, but the Canaries are their own microclimate and don’t follow the usual season weather pattern we do over the continent. It will probably be too cold for dunking in a pool, which is why I suggested a shallow beach area, which will be more than suitable for a baby who is wearing a thin swimsuit too maybe.

BritsAbroadly · 26/09/2026 12:45

Not even in a baby wetsuit is a baby going in 24 degree water! People are being mad.

Smallpoxy · 26/09/2026 12:49

Yes. Way to cold.

Honestly a nine month old baby isn't going to be playing in any pool all day. It's much more important with older children who will want to play in the pool all day.

I've been to Lanzarote in march many times. It is not like going to Greece in August.
You can expect warm sunny days, but windy so feeling cooler. Evenings can be chilly, I always take a warm fleece and long trousers for evenings.
I swim in the sea and pools but it's very cold. They might advertise a pool as "" heated" but it will never be warm.

Don't cancel your holiday but have realistic expectations for the weather. I love it in January to march to escape from the British winter but it's not the same as a summer beach holiday in the med.
