What is the best way of finding a last minute holiday? Not even sure I know where I want to go

We have left booking a holiday horribly late this year. I am generally pretty bad at finding holidays and am now floundering around on the web looking for something to book. We normally book self caterine villa/ house and sort out flights etc seperately but not sure whether this is the best approach for last minute bookings.

The positives are that we are quite flexible about when we go (although obviously it needs to be sometime during the school holidays) and also quite open minded about where. I am hoping that we can snap up a last minute deal but not sure where to start.

Can anyone help me?

check some newspaper websites for late holiday offers- the guardian and the times have good ones

run a search on travelsupermarket.com and kayak.com for fight+hotel offers

I have no idea foo but I'd start with lastminute.com and laterooms I think and if somewhere has availability then I'd go to tripadvisor.

I just did a search on 2 adults, 2 children, July and Aug and got over 100 results, have NO idea what you want so no point in posting them here!
