London day trip

Not really a holiday but couldn’t think what other category to post in 😊

Planning on a day trip to London on a Saturday end of November, 2 women in their 50’s and 2 18 year old daughters

Looking for some recommendations of festive things to do, so we’re not just aimlessly wandering around

Thanks

You could try and get some tickets to a matinee ballet, opera, nutcracker or pantomime performance. Festive areas will be Covent Garden and Regent Street. You could do a festive afternoon tea at a hotel, or just visit a hotel bar for cocktails.

Depends what you’re into but I don’t think you can go too far wrong with a trip to Selfridges at Christmas time. They always go all out on the decs and often have a dj playing so it makes for a fun, funky atmosphere. Theres also lots of xmassy pop ups and bars. Xmas at Russell at street looks fun

Fortnums is gorgeous. How about a walking tour. There are loads to choose from. We did A Christmas Carol and it was amazing.

End of Nov all Christmas lights are up. I love seeing the big tree and market lights in Covent Garden. Book into Ten cases for lunch near by then wander round to Covent Garden as it becomes dusk.

The South Bank has a Christmas fair.

Liberty Christmas shop on the top floor

London is great that time of year, I would do a wander round the streets, taking in the Christmassy atmosphere, Regent Street and Carnaby, definitely a stop at Libertys and then into Covent Garden, there’s a rooftop bar on top of the Royal Opera house which looks into Covent Garden that feels very special.

Depends what you are into. Also consider what's closest to the mainline station you come into so that you don't waste time travelling across London. The west end and south bank can also be very crowded. The city is a good alternative for Christmas lights...all the big office buildings have trees in their foyer. Could go along Bishopsgate and around St Mary Axe area then across London Bridge to Borough market. Or do a guided walking tour on a Christmas theme. Docklands as area also often has nice light trails. I wouldn't see a show as they tend to be ridiculously expensive and cuts down your time to explore.
