I think you’ll be hard pushed to find golden sand in Tenerife. The beaches are mostly black volcanic sand. The El Duque area in the south is a nice, upmarket area with golden beach, nice restaurants and shops. I don’t think there’s a marina there though- that’s further along in Torviscas.
El Duque is quite expensive though.

The only other golden beach I can think of in Tenerife is Las Teresitas beach in the north of the island. I’ve been there only once, many years ago when I was a child and can’t quite recall what else is around there.

Actually, I’ve just thought of another. Abama beach has golden sand. The Abama hotel is beautiful and has a Michelin star restaurant- but it’s ££££ and I don’t think there’s much else around it.

Tenerife is not the place to go for any of that !

Does it have to be Tenerife? Playa Blanca in Lanzarote sounds as you describe. Personally I prefer Lanzarote but travel to Tenerife once or twice a year as we can fly from regional airport, I would recommend Los Cristianos if you want golden beaches. Close to airport. In Tenerife Los Giantos, playa de la arena, Puerto Santiago is stunningly beautiful including the black beach. Costa Adeje is very popular too.

Costa adeje is okay but really Tenerife is not picturesque

I like Tenerife and go quite often, but mostly because it’s cheap and cheerful and I love the interior scenery. We stay on the edge of Los Cristianos, which has a decent enough beach but no marina. Costa Adeje might work, or Los Gigantes is lovely but has a black beach.

Not sure Tenerife is the right place for you OP. It's not known for "golden beaches", although there are a few man made ones. Most of the beaches are black volcanic sand and it isn't really what I would call a beach destination.

If a golden beach is one of your few criteria it's not Tenerife.

I’m here now, Los Christianos and this beach is a 15 minute walk away. Tenerife wouldn’t be top of my holiday list, we’re here because I know somebody with an apartment that she rents out cheap.
It is what it is here, it’s can be comparable to the tv show Benidorm or not. You don’t have to join in with the pissed up Brits abroad stuff, we don’t.
We’ve been to lovely restaurants on the sea front, Mokolino Tapas bar and La Mudusa restaurant f you wanted to take a look, I’d really recommend.

You'll need to be very choosy where you go in Tenerife if a golden sandy beach is one of your top criteria. There are some, I think, but much of it is black volcanic sand.

We went to Los Gigantes in late February this year and I did like it but for swimming and bathing I chose the hotel pool because the beach was black. I knew it would be and it is interesting to look at, but I didn't want to spend the day there.

El Medano is a very chilled town, lots of kite surfers. Sandy beach near the big hotel or you can go behind the mountain and there is a huge sandy beach. It's very close to the airport (about 15€) and there are some great restaurants

Bananacrepewithnuts · 23/09/2026 20:15

I've been to Tenerife twice and I would never go back.

Far nicer (similar budget/flight times) to go.

Turkey is way nicer imo
