Low stress holiday

The last four summer holidays I’ve been on have made me physically ill and wiped out the full week. I’ve realised I don’t enjoy holidays as a parent. Too much stress about getting it right, spending, etc etc.

Anyone got any ideas for a totally low stress option that would work with teenagers and an active husband? I don’t really care but like nice scenery.

Thanks. Lots of useful suggestions. Reminded me that I did enjoy an organised family tour a while back too. Getting DH and kids to organise it is out for various reasons but anyway, it’s not the organising it in advance that’s the problem I don’t think. In fact, I like that bit, I just don’t enjoy it once I’m there. I do think the price of AI will be tricky but going to explore. Thanks all.

@eekwhatnowIf DH is active, I’d be careful of a cruise. Also the organised trips off the ships can be mega expensive for a family. So the headline figure (£) is not what you pay. You will be travelling with thousands of others and we did a couple but found it too regimented for us. Although the one we did in Alaska was quite good. I took DM in one to Norway for her 90th birthday. They do disgorge thousands of people into ports though so think hard if that’s for you.

We liked Families Worldwide holidays with teen departures. Reasonable choice and not too expensive.

Have you considered an organised family tour with a company like Exodus, Intrepid, G Adventures or Explore? The stress is still there on picking the right trip, but once you've chosen the itinerary is set. We just did the Exodus family Namibia one, was fabulous. Obviously Namibia costs an awful lot of money, but they have a variety of trips through Europe as well as outside of Europe, though none of them are what I would term cheap.

The Vietnam one is very reasonable. Obviously flights aren’t cheap but it’s extremely cheap once you get there. You can also cut the cost of flights by flying indirect. (We went direct). It worked out about the same price as a decent European summer holiday

A caravan/cottage on the Northumberland coast. It's just so peaceful.

Why is it out to let teens organise things? I get that you won't let them go totally rogue and book all plane tickets without discussion, but they should certainly have input into where to go, what kind of holiday, what they want to do etc. If you have decided and booked it all, you will sit there worrying if they like it and disappointed if they don't. DIfferent if they have chosen the itinerary/activity themselves.

Mine have liked to be active since they were young and need a “plan” so, although I love AI now as a child-free adult, we would have needed plenty of included activities. We liked Neilson holidays with early teens, then tended to either road trip when they were a bit older (France, US, Australia) - covers the scenery requirement but does need someone deciding what to do, or walking holidays in the Alps - beautiful and active but not for all teenagers. We’ve also done a couple of Intrepid tours, which have been fantastic but might not meet the budget requirements.

We just got back from the Liberty Signa in Turkey. Swim up rooms and amazing restaurants. Loads of activities. It’s the perfect blend of something for everyone. Our teens loved it. Took all the emotional burden off me.
