Bucharest for a city break?

A friend of mine is not long back from Romania, spent four days there and absolutely loved it.

Flew to Bucharest, went to Sibiu and Sighisoara (sp?) And Rupea. Hired a car and drove up into the mountains, it looked amazing!

Has anyone else tried this?

Romania is a brilliant destination. Bucharest is not that pretty, but has the brilliant Palace of the Parliament, and Bucharest Terme to visit (near airport, and fab, for about 30e) and also some nice parks and churches. Nearish by (and accessible by train in an hour or so) are the Bucegi Mountains (Sinaia, pele's castle, mountains, bears) and also Brasov (another hour or so on) for Bran's castle and just a beautiful town. All very good value, and the people are lovely. Not sure I would want to drive a car there mind. Uber is there.

We were there for 3 weeks. About 4 years ago and found it one of our less successful holidays tbh.
Started in Bucharest, which isn't great and there's not much to see.
Took the train to Brasov and hired a car for 2 weeks.
The first thing to say is that the Romanians drive like maniacs, so don't expect it to be pleasant driving. And, unless you're going to stick to transylvania, you will need a car, as it's a very big country.
What I loved, and made it worthwhile, were the painted monasteries in the north, which were wonderful.
