Is it worth paying more for a different winter sun holiday?

There's a winter sun destination that we usually go for a week at every other year or so. It's a nice place, it's easy, and we know it. I am a bit bored of it though.

There's a different but similar destination that I would like to try. The problem is, that it's much much more expensive. Although the hotel is a fair bit nicer.

The hotel we usually stay at is £2,500 for a week half board, but the alternative destination is £4,500 a week half board.

DH says he would like to see somewhere new but also says a beach is a beach.

Is there not a cheaper hotel or apartment in the new destination? But it depends on what you want and how you prioritise your money. We typically spend more like £1500 on a week away in winter and it all seems perfectly lovely so even £2500 feels like a lot to me.

Is there no alternative? Surely there isn't just the option of your usual, boring place (within budget) or the other, blow the budget place? How about being adventurous and trying something totally different?

@hyndelia what the destinations, looking for winter sun recommendations. We did Paphos last year for two weeks over Christmas, it was 22-25 degrees bright sunshine everyday, all the historic sites and attractions were empty due to it being out of season, great holiday.
