Hi. I’m looking for somewhere to go for 10 days in August with my extended family. I’m looking for somewhere coastal but with lots of other things to do. Any ideas?

Budget?

The Algarve could work well, particularly around Lagos or Alvor. You would have lovely beaches, boat trips, historic towns and plenty of activities for different ages. Costa Brava is another good option if your family wants a mixture of beaches, water activities and day trips. It would help to know your approximate budget, the ages of the children and whether you prefer a villa or hotel.

How are you with heat? Unless you really love hot weather I would opt for Portugal.

If you aren't into a typical beach holiday how about western France? But as the fire situation this year showed, August can now be fairly unpredictable.

Well you will certainly get a cheap holiday Op. why? Because the heat will be debilitating

What sort of 'other things' are you looking to do?

Museums, historical monuments? Malaga area would be great but very hot. Likewise Greece.

Watersports?

Hiking, biking?

If you want to swim and have 'city break' things to do, without it being so hot, Gdansk or Copenhagen would suit. Also a lot of inland places like Berlin or the Alps have access to lakes for swimming, sailing etc.

You could pick from literally thousands of options, but people need more of a steer than 'a holiday in Europe' to make suggestions.
